Workers are becoming less concerned about losing their jobs due to increasing signs of a turnaround in the country's economic situation, according to a survey report released this week by a private career consultant firm.
The survey, carried out in March by Right Management Consultants Inc. of the United States, found that 17.4 percent of Japanese workers polled were worried about losing their jobs within a year, down 3.3 percentage points from the preceding survey six months earlier.
Right Management Consultants Japan Inc., the Japanese unit of the U.S. company, said recent favorable readings of Japanese economic indicators led to the decreased unemployment fears.
According to the survey, which was conducted in 18 countries and regions, more than 20 percent of workers surveyed in the United States, Britain, Germany and Hong Kong were concerned about losing their job within one year.
Japan, which ranked fifth in the previous survey, was ninth in the latest survey.
Asked if it would be possible to find a similar job at the same pay, the survey found that 79.7 percent of Japanese surveyed said it would be difficult.
