Hitachi Ltd. said Wednesday its net profit for fiscal 2003 plunged 43 percent to 15.88 billion yen due to heavier tax payments.
But it said operational earnings grew, thanks to improved profitability at its electronics component business.
On the same day, NEC Corp. and Mitsubishi Electronic Corp. reported a return to profitability, helped by brisk sales of mobile phone handsets.
