Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi remained at home Friday after leaving early from a Diet session a day earlier and canceling appointments due to fatigue, ministry spokesman Hatsuhisa Takashima said.

Kawaguchi skipped Friday morning's Cabinet meeting and canceled her appointments, including her attendance of three Diet committee sessions. She is expected to return to work Monday, Takashima said.

Takashima said Kawaguchi went to a hospital Thursday after leaving in the middle of a session of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Responses to Armed Attacks. Her doctor advised her to rest at home Thursday and Friday.

"I have not talked with her directly, but her secretary has been in contact with her on the phone a number of times," Takashima said. "I have heard that she said her condition is not serious.

"The foreign minister has said that if she can take today off and take it easy on the weekend, she will be able to return to work Monday, so we are now making preparations for her to handle a regular schedule Monday."
