Japan Airlines System Corp. and East Japan Railway Co. have agreed to issue a new credit and electronic money card by combining their respective JALCARD and View Suica cards.

The joint card, JALCARD Suica, will be introduced this winter to provide a wide range of interchangeable benefits for air and rail users.

When a cardholder earns 10,000 miles under the JAL Group's frequent-flyer program, the miles can be converted into rail fares equivalent to 10,000 yen. Conversions will be permitted twice a year.

In addition, 600 points accumulated for the use of View Suica can be converted into 1,000 miles.

The joint program by the leading Japanese airline and railroad group is aimed at enhancing the convenience of journeys by making them cashless, they said. The partners hope to attract 300,000 cardholders within a few years.
