Sharp Corp. said Thursday it will start production and sales of air conditioners in Egypt this summer under a tieup agreement with local electronics maker El Araby.
Sharp-brand air conditioners will be manufactured beginning June at El Araby's new plant in the suburbs of Cairo. The plant has an output capacity of 200,000 units a year, the largest among air-conditioner plants in Egypt, Sharp said.
Air conditioners using Sharp's leading-edge plasmacluster air-purifying ion technology, which generates positive and negative ions said to help inactivate airborne viruses and decompose molecules, will be among the products to be assembled at the plant.
