Prosecutors asked the Tokyo District Court on Wednesday to sentence a former Waseda University student to 13 years in prison for his alleged participation in three gang rapes.
Junichiro Kobayashi, 22, is one of 14 defendants accused of taking part in gang rapes linked to the former Super Free event club at Waseda University in Tokyo. The prison term is the longest sought so far in connection with the crimes.
Also Wednesday, the court sentenced one of the 14, 21-year-old Soichiro Koizumi, an expelled student, to 32 months in prison. Prosecutors had demanded a four-year prison term.
Last week, six other defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging up to 32 months.
Prosecutors have yet to specify a sentence for the alleged ringleader, Shinichiro Wada, 29, also a former Waseda student, and two others.
