Ricoh Co. said Wednesday it will acquire Hitachi Ltd.'s printer business in October to bolster its competitiveness in the growing field.
The nation's largest copier maker did not say how much it will pay for all the shares of Hitachi Printing Solutions Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of the electronics giant. The two firms have not yet worked out the terms of the deal, it said.
Hitachi manufactures printers for so-called mission-critical systems -- document output machines for host computers that require high-speed printing of large volumes of data.
The sale marks the latest step in Hitachi's effort to reorganize its far-flung conglomerate.
