Baseball stadium operator Tokyo Dome Corp. said Tuesday its newly opened spa facility helped it weather an otherwise problematic year.
The Tokyo Dome was forced to cancel some big games during the course of the year, while its home team, the Yomiuri Giants, failed to make it to the Japan Series.
The company said, however, that its net profit for the business year that ended in January almost doubled to 3.5 billion yen, while revenue rose 1.2 percent to 96.97 billion yen.
The net profit jump was attributed primarily to a one-time gain stemming from a change in its employee pension program.
But the company added that, without LaQua, a commercial and entertainment complex adjacent to the stadium that centers around a spa and opened in May, its performance would not have been so impressive.
