Toshiba Corp. said Tuesday that its 0.85-inch hard disk drive has been certified as the smallest in the world and will be included in the 2005 edition of the Guinness Book of Records to be published in September.
Guinness World Records publishes an annual book in which it collects, confirms, accredits and presents world record data.
Toshiba's 0.85-inch drive, released in January, is the first hard disk drive to feature multigigabyte data storage in a sub-1-inch form factor, the firm maker said.
With initial capacities of 2 to 4 gigabytes, the drive has enhanced storage for smaller, lighter and more efficient products, including mobile phones, digital camcorders and portable storage devices.
