The Liberal Democratic Party plans to submit to the current Diet session a bill aimed at effecting a referendum on constitutional reform, senior LDP lawmakers said Monday.
The lawmakers said, however, that the LDP will not stick to a plan to have the Diet pass the bill by the June 16 end of the current session, because its coalition partner, New Komeito, remains cautious over an early passage of the bill.
The LDP's plan to submit the bill despite the lack of full New Komeito support is aimed primarily toward wooing voters in the July election for the House of Councilors, analysts said.
