The last two employees at the Japanese Embassy in Haiti temporarily evacuated to the Dominican Republic on Wednesday due to deteriorating security, with rebels readying to seize the capital, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

The ministry on Monday raised the level of its travel warning for the Caribbean country, recommending that all Japanese nationals evacuate.

Despite the embassy staff's pullout from Port-au-Prince, 10 Japanese -- five nuns, two permanent residents, a medical worker, the spouse of a diplomat of another country, and a journalist -- have indicated they will stay, the Foreign Ministry said.
