A transport company in Fukuoka Prefecture has sold to an exporter thousands of used home electrical appliances that were meant to be recycled, a possible violation of the Home Appliance Recycling Law, two retailers said Thursday.
Some of the appliances may have been exported to North Korea, according to sources close to the case. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is planning an investigation.
The name of the transport company, which is based in the city of Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, is being withheld pending the investigation.
