Profit at video-game maker Sega Corp. nearly doubled during the April-December period on strong sales of arcade-game machines in Japan.
The Tokyo-based maker of "Sonic the Hedgehog" games on Thursday reported a group net profit of 7.66 billion yen for the period, up 92 percent from 3.98 billion yen a year earlier.
Operating profit jumped 33 percent to 12.5 billion yen from 9.4 billion yen, but revenue edged down 4.1 percent to 144.5 billion yen from 150.7 billion yen.
Sega has stopped making home game consoles after its Dreamcast machine lost out in the global market to rivals such as Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 2, Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox and Nintendo Co.'s GameCube. But Sega continues to make game software for the rival machines and remains strong in arcade equipment.
