Fuji Photo Film Co. unveiled a five-year business plan on Thursday featuring calls to double its digital camera output to 13 million units in fiscal 2006.
Fuji Photo Film is expected to make 6.2 million to 6.3 million digital cameras in the year that ends in March, according to industry officials.
It will rank between third and fifth in terms of global market share, according to industry officials.
In fiscal 2006, the company will start producing digital cameras in China at an annual rate of about 5 million units.
"Fuji Photo wants to become one of the world's top three digital camera makers in terms of market share," President Shigetaka Komori told reporters.
The company plans to launch new supersensitive film and disposable cameras and aggressively market them in China and India, according to the business plan.
Fuji Photo Film aims to post a group operating profit of 350 billion yen in fiscal 2008, on sales of 3.5 trillion yen, including those by subsidiary Fuji Xerox Co., the plan says.
