Japanese officials will visit the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in February to hold talks on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles.
Government sources said Friday the talks should demonstrate Japanese cooperation with ASEAN in trying to get North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program.
They said the talks will be part of efforts to enhance security cooperation.
