Mazda Motor Corp. said Thursday it will recall two sport utility vehicles, the Tribute and the Ford Escape, due to defects in seat belt buckles.
Subject to the recall are 12,416 Tributes manufactured between October 2000 and August 2001 and 1,997 Ford Escapes produced by Mazda between November 2000 and August 2001.
In a report to the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry, Mazda said that users may have trouble putting their seat belts on, adding that the belts may come undone due to the defective buckles.
