MEXICO CITY (Kyodo) The leader of the most powerful Mexican agricultural lobby said he supports the government's policy of terminating free-trade negotiations with Japan if a deal is not reached by the end of March.
"It's been a year negotiating and we can't waste more time knowing that we won't get to any conclusion," Armando Paredes, president of the National Agricultural Council, said in an interview Tuesday with Kyodo News.
Earlier this month, Economy Secretary Fernando Canales threatened to discontinue the FTA talks with Japan as a bilateral accord is still nowhere in sight despite continued negotiations after talks collapsed in October.
