The new president of Skymark Airlines Co. said Wednesday he will reinforce the discount carrier's infrastructure.
Shinichi Nishikubo said on his first day as president he will upgrade the carrier's inefficient computer system within a year to improve reservation handling, check-in services and other operations.
This will enable the firm to save labor and allocate about 30 employees to other sections, he told a news conference in Tokyo.
"I think I can contribute not only to improving our main business, but systems and organization as well, " said Nishikubo, 48, who is also chairman of Internet service provider Zero Inc.
Skymark entered the domestic airline market in 1998 as the first newcomer in 35 years. It has yet to achieve a full-year profit.
