Cold air over Japan brought subzero temperatures to many parts of the archipelago Friday morning, as blizzards paralyzed traffic in northern regions and areas on the Sea of Japan coast.
The Meteorological Agency warned of road-surface freezing, avalanches and high waves due to heavy snow and strong winds.
The temperature was minus 5.1 in Kochi, or more than 6 below average. It was minus 1.7 in Fukuoka and minus 0.4 in Kagoshima.
