The government Monday upgraded its assessment of the economy for the first time in two months.
In its monthly economic report for January, the Cabinet Office declared that the economy is "recovering steadily" rather than showing only tentative growth.
It attributed the upbeat assessment to improvements in exports, industrial production and private consumption, as well as to continued strength in corporate profits and business investment.
