The National Institute of Infectious Diseases said Friday it will develop vaccines based on avian influenza viruses.
The move comes in the wake of the country's first outbreak of bird flu since 1925 and reports of human deaths from the disease in Vietnam.
The governmental institute, along with foreign bodies with the World Health Organization's influenza network, have agreed to develop vaccines aimed at preventing the spread of bird flu among humans.
