Subscriptions to mobile phone services in Japan totaled 79,787,200 in December, up 8.5 percent from a year earlier and 0.6 percent from the previous month, the Telecommunications Carriers Association said Friday.
NTT DoCoMo Inc., Japan's largest mobile phone operator, saw subscriptions to its service rise 114,600 during December to 45,365,900, while KDDI Corp.'s au service posted growth of 289,600 to 15,977,300, the association said.
Vodafone K.K., renamed from J-Phone Co. on Oct. 1, followed with 14,774,000, an increase of 114,200.
Subscriptions to Internet-capable mobile phone services increased 13.9 percent from a year earlier and 0.9 percent from November to 67,805,800.
