A mobster and two others have been arrested in connection with a deadly assault on a man last week in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, police said Monday.
The Metropolitan Police Department identified one of the suspects as An Kong Bom, 45, a South Korean national who belongs to a yakuza syndicate affiliated with the Yamaguchi-gumi.
An, who lives in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, was reportedly dating the former wife of the victim, Shinji Matsui, a 40-year-old company employee, police officials said.
Matsui was found dead Wednesday inside his car, which was parked in front of a hospital in the Hyakunincho district.
An was quoted as telling police that he beat up Matsui to punish him after he scolded his ex-wife for becoming drunk.
According to police, An and the two other suspects kidnapped Matsui on a street in Fussa, western Tokyo, on the evening of Dec. 30.
They took him to a hotel in the Kabukicho entertainment district and beat him up, causing a fatal brain hemorrhage, the officials said.
