Swiss Reinsurance Co. said Monday it has been granted a license by the Financial Services Agency to open a branch in Japan.
Swiss Re will launch its Japanese operations in April, seeking reinsurance contracts from life and nonlife insurance firms in Japan, it said.
Swiss Re is one of the world's largest reinsurers in the life and medical-care insurance sectors.
It set up a services unit in Japan in 1999.
