Sharp Corp. plans to expand its production of large liquid crystal panels at a new facility in Kameyama, Mie Prefecture, after the plant starts up in January, a company spokesman said Monday.
The Osaka-based electronics maker wants to boost the planned production capacity because it sees stronger-than-expected demand for large liquid crystal panels, the spokesman said.
"We have yet to decide on the details, such as when and how much to expand the capacity," he added.
The spokesman made the comments in reference to a newspaper report that Sharp will spend about 90 billion yen in the spring to triple the planned production capacity for large liquid crystal panels at the Kameyama plant.
