Jikei University School of Medicine sacked three doctors Friday in connection with a botched prostate cancer operation in November 2002 that claimed the life of the 60-year-old male patient.
Fired were Drs. Jun Madarame, 38, Taro Hasegawa, 34, and Tetsuro Onishi, 52. Madarame and Hasegawa were directly involved in the surgery and are currently on trial for professional negligence resulting in death. Onishi, their superior, authorized the operation.
During their first criminal trial session Thursday before the Tokyo District Court Thursday, Madarame and Hasegawa pleaded guilty to the charges.
