Shingo Nishimura, a House of Representatives member of the Democratic Party of Japan, wrote an essay expressing his gratitude for help in his election campaign in a magazine published by a man arrested Friday in connection with three shooting attacks.
In the latest issue of the monthly magazine, published by Ichiro Murakami, 54, a company chairman from Gifu, Nishimura expresses gratitude to Murakami and backers for their "overwhelming support" in the Nov. 9 general election. Nishimura was re-elected to a fourth term.
Tokyo police arrested Murakami and five others in connection with attacks against offices of Aum Shinrikyo in Tokyo and Osaka in May and June, as well as an attack against a teachers' union office in Hiroshima in June.
