Microsoft Co. said Thursday it will make the source code for its Windows operating systems open to researchers involved in an Internet project involving six Japanese universities.
The move will mark the first time that the Japanese unit of U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp. has made the source code available to Japanese universities.
The six universities in question are the University of Tokyo, Keio University, the Tokyo Institute of Technology, the Science University of Tokyo, Tsukuba University and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
The project is aimed at developing technologies to secure the safety of software and virus-free e-mail software.
