Four major electronics firms announced Wednesday they have agreed to jointly develop standard specifications for connecting fridges, microwave ovens and laundry machines to the Internet.
They are Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Sanyo Electric Co., Sharp Corp. and Toshiba Corp.
Faced with cut-price competition from overseas, the four makers of traditional household appliances hope to reclaim an edge by offering cyber-connected products.
