Tokyo's Ueno Zoo put on public display Wednesday a female giant panda that has been loaned to Japan by Mexico for a love tryst with Ueno Zoo's only panda, Ling Ling.
Shuan Shuan, 16, arrived in Tokyo on Dec. 3, having flown from Mexico City's Chapultepec Zoo. She is the first female panda to visit Tokyo on a breeding mission.
Between 2001 and 2003, Ling Ling, 18, made three unsuccessful mating trips to the Mexican zoo, where there are three female giant pandas.
Ling Ling's mate died in July 2000.
The two pandas will be kept apart until Shuan Shuan enters her spring mating period, according to the zoo.
