Denso Corp. and Toshiba Corp. said Wednesday they have jointly developed what they believe to be the world's first prototype of a multioperating systems environment that will support both the Windows and Tron OSs.
The prototype software was developed for car navigation systems and can provide "single-chip" support for both Tron and Microsoft Windows Automotive, the firms said.
Tron is an OS for embedded devices invented by Ken Sakamura, a professor of information science at the University of Tokyo. Microsoft Windows Automotive is a software platform for in-vehicle information equipment made by the U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp.
