The government will compile an extra budget for the current fiscal year featuring more than 1 trillion yen in spending on social security, disaster relief and Iraqi assistance, government officials said Tuesday.
About 100 billion yen will be earmarked for the reconstruction of Iraq, more than 20 billion yen for antiterrorism measures and 200 billion yen for disaster relief, the officials said.
The total size of the extra budget has yet to be determined, they said.
The supplementary budget will not include any economy-boosting measures, Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki revealed earlier in the day.
"The current economic situation does not call for a supplementary budget that includes economic steps," Tanigaki remarked during a news conference.
