Japan should take the initiative and rebuild Iraq in a way that truly serves the Iraqi people, exile Abdul Amir Rekaby said Monday in Tokyo.
Rekaby, 55, a spokesman for the Iraqi National Democratic Current, is nearing the end of his one-week visit to Japan. A resident of Paris, Rekaby has been actively promoting democracy for Iraq.
Rekaby listed two specific proposals for Japan: Restore the Al-Ahwar Marshlands, which cover a vast area of southern Iraq, and hold a conference in which representatives of all ethnic and religious groups in Iraq can get together to decide the country's future.
