Tokyo-based department store chain Mitsukoshi Ltd. plans to offer customers the right to display their photos on its advertising spaces in Tokyo subway trains next year -- at a cost of 10 million yen.
As part of its sales campaign for the new year, Mitsukoshi will sell the rights to display photos in its "fukubukuro," or lucky bags, officials said.
At the beginning of the year, many Japanese stores offer bags that contain a range of items at discount prices. Some stores try to attract customers by including unusual items in the bags.
Under Mitsukoshi's plan, the photo display will be included in 12 10 million yen "fukubukuro" that it will prepare. For 15 days, the purchaser will be allowed to use the department store's ads on Tokyo's Marunouchi and Ginza line trains -- giving the photographer space to display some 450 photos -- the officials said.
