Japanese corporations are steadily expanding their social action programs to support physically disabled people in an apparent bid to look better to foreign investors.

Overseas investors are increasingly attaching importance to corporate efforts to employ disabled people and protect the environment as investment criteria.

"Japanese corporations have been preoccupied with responding to inquiries about their social contributions from overseas research companies in the last couple of years," said Kazuhide Ito, chairman of the Japan Business Federation's (Nippon Keidanren) corporate and social group.
