Japan's game software industry began charging rental fees Monday for the use of software at cafes providing Internet service and access to comic books, the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association said.
Software makers set rental fees on a single-year basis. The fees vary between 1,000 yen and 2,500 yen, the association said.
The move came after negotiations between the association and representatives of such cafes, some of which had allowed customers to use game software without consent from the industry.
