Japanese and South Korean airlines began shuttle flights Sunday between Tokyo's Haneda airport and Seoul's Kimpo in a bid to boost tourism and exchanges between the two capitals.

Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, and South Korea's Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, will each provide one round-trip flight a day between Narita and Kimpo.

Both of the airports primarily handle domestic flights.

JAL's first flight took off from Haneda at 10 a.m. South Korea's first flight left Kimpo at 9:50 a.m., Yonhap News Agency reported from Seoul.

The move marks the first time since the 2002 World Cup soccer finals that daytime international flights from Haneda airport have been available.

Haneda has been seeing two to three round-trip international charter flights a day, late in the evening or early in the morning.
