A former accounting official at the publishing house Kobunsha Co. was arrested Tuesday for allegedly embezzling 21.8 million yen.
Police said Naoto Sakurai, 47, is suspected of inflating payments for manuscripts and other expenses on five occasions earlier this year.
Police said Sakurai spent the money on items such as a luxury car and a holiday home.
