Since delivering a speech during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 at age 12, Severn Cullis-Suzuki has actively campaigned worldwide to raise people's awareness about environmental issues.
Her message is clear and simple: Each individual's efforts can change the world for the better.
A fourth-generation Japanese-Canadian, Cullis-Suzuki had an opportunity to speak at the Rio summit to represent the voice of children. She told the participants that they are "deciding what kind of world we will grow up in" and urged them to discuss global environmental protection from the viewpoint of parents considering the future of their children.
