Two truck makers saw their consolidated earnings go in opposite directions in the first half of fiscal 2003, with Isuzu Motors Ltd. returning to profitability and Nissan Diesel Motor Co. widening losses.
Isuzu said Thursday its consolidated net profit came to 24.92 billion yen in the April-September period, the highest first-half figure since the company started releasing consolidated results in 2000.
The company posted a consolidated net loss of 84.23 billion yen in the same period last year, due mainly to increased costs to reduce its payroll through an early retirement program.
