An international organization led by business leaders has developed a program for Japanese companies to promote corporate social responsibility, or CSR, its Japanese branch announced Wednesday in Tokyo.
The Caux Round Table, a Switzerland-based international organization, has compiled a Japanese version of the "self-assessment and improvement process (SAIP)" program for CSR. It was originally developed by CRT's American task force in 2001.
CSR is an element of corporate behavior that promotes long-term contribution to the development of society.
"The Japanese-version program, which meets business environment here, would help Japanese companies build up system based on the CSR concept," said Hisashi Kaneko, chairman of the CRT's Japanese committee and counselor for NEC Corp.
The SAIP program consists of questions in such categories as corporate behavior concerning social responsibility, environmentally friendly activity and measures to prevent illegal conduct of employees.
