Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) on Wednesday reported record group sales and pretax profit for the first half.
Brisk demand for its bullet train services on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line boosted sales to 683.2 billion yen in the April-October period, up 900 million yen from a year earlier, it said.
The Nozomi shinkansen, the fastest of their kind, have steadily gained popularity among business and other travelers, JR Tokai officials said.
JR Tokai has steadily decreased its long-term debts, increasing its pretax profit by 6.6 billion yen to 88.6 billion yen, the officials said.
The firm's sales and pretax profit have posted year-on-year increases over four consecutive periods, they said.
