Beverage maker Suntory Ltd. said Friday it will construct its second soft-drink plant in Shanghai in 2005 to meet growing demand.
The factory will be built by a joint venture between two local subsidiaries of Suntory and a Chinese company, Suntory said.
The joint venture, Suntory Shanghai Foods Co., was established earlier this month and is capitalized at $15.6 million (about 1.9 billion yen), it said.
Suntory established its first soft-drink factory in Shanghai in 1996. It reported a 12 percent increase in soft-drink sales in China in 2002.
