Domestic sales of new cars, trucks and buses rose 4.2 percent in September from a year earlier to 404,506 units, marking the first increase in two months, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Wednesday.
This surge follows a 2.6 percent fall in August, which marked the first drop in four months. The sales data in question exclude minivehicles, or minicars featuring engines of up to 660cc.
The data brought cumulative sales in the April-September period up 0.5 percent from a year earlier to 1,902,230 units, marking the first increase in two years for this period.
