Sales at convenience stores around the nation fell 3.4 percent on a same-store basis in August from a year earlier for the sixth straight monthly slide, the Japan Franchise Association said Monday.
The association attributed the fall to sluggish sales of seasonal products such as soft drinks and ice cream due to record-breaking low temperatures during the month.
Sales on an all-store basis rose 0.5 percent to 634.79 billion yen.
The association does not release the value of sales on a same-store basis.
The association compiled data from 13 convenience store chain operators belonging to it, including Seven-Eleven Japan Co., Lawson Inc. and FamilyMart Co.
