The Tokyo Metropolitan Government cut a deal Wednesday with major banks to reduce a local tax rate on their gross operating profits, lawyers for the banks said.
The new rate will be 0.9 percent, down from 3 percent.
Lawyers for the metropolitan government and the banks made the deal at the Supreme Court while negotiating an out-of-court settlement.
