Nissan Motor Co. President and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn ranked highest among Japanese firms' top executives in terms of annual compensation, according to Forbes magazine.

Ghosn, who turned the Japanese automaker around, placed 23rd, with $2.33 million, on the magazine's list of "CEO compensation at the top 50 companies" outside the United States.

Jorma Ollila of Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia Corp. topped the list with $15.60 million.

Peter Wuffli of the Swiss financial group UBS came in second with $9.80 million and BP's John Browne was third with $8.44 million.

The list in the Sept. 1 issue included five other presidents at Japanese firms, including Fujio Cho of Toyota Motor Corp. in 38th place with $1.1 million.

Takeo Fukui of Honda Motor Co. was listed in 41st place with $562,000 and Fujio Mitarai of Canon Inc. in 42nd place with $523,000.

Norio Wada of NTT Corp. was ranked 47th and Kunio Takada of Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd. followed at 50th.
