Sanyo Electric Co. has formed a three-way alliance with Chinese and South Korean electronics makers to jointly develop home electric appliances for home networking for the Chinese market, Sanyo officials said Thursday.
The electronics maker set up an office in Shanghai in July with Haier Group Co. of China and Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea to prepare for the project.
Using networking technologies, appliances such as air conditioners, lights and audiovisual equipment can be connected and controlled centrally by personal computers, mobile phones and other remote control devices.
In Japan, Toshiba Corp., Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Hitachi Ltd. have been active in the development of home networking appliances.
Sanyo intends to work closely with Haier and Samsung to develop home networking appliances targeting wealthy Chinese and to create an international standard for such products, the officials said.
In January last year, Sanyo formed a tieup with Haier in the field of home appliances and with Samsung in the field of advanced technologies.
