A Mitsubishi Electric Corp. subsidiary and four other companies will team up to collect and recycle used personal computers beginning in October.
The move comes as PC manufacturers will be required to collect and recycle unwanted home computers effective the same month.
Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Corp. will join NEC-Mitsubishi Electric Visual Systems Corp. -- a joint venture of Mitsubishi Electric and NEC Corp. -- Samsung Japan Corp., Eizo Nanao Corp. and Totoku Electric Co.
To collect used PCs, the companies will exploit a collection system built through an alliance between the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association and Japan Post, a public postal service corporation.
The collection channel will also benefit the five firms in light of cost effectiveness and efficiency, a Mitsubishi spokesman said.
