Hitachi Ltd. and Sony Corp. said Wednesday they have agreed to cooperate in the data backup solution business in Japan.
Under the agreement, Hitachi and Sony will jointly test large-scale, high-speed data backup solution technologies by combining Hitachi's hard-disk equipment with Sony's tape storage equipment, according to a statement released by the two companies.
Hitachi and Sony said they will also consider jointly developing large-scale data storage backup systems for corporate customers to help them cut backup management costs.
The market for data backup systems is growing rapidly due to an explosive increase in data volume handled by corporations.
